Kyneton Velodrome

Kyneton Velodrome is a historic outdoor cycling track at Hurry Reserve on Mollison Street, opposite the Kyneton Botanic Gardens in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges. Track cycling has a long history in Kyneton, dating back to the late 1890s, with the velodrome at Hurry Reserve constructed in the 1970s and later resurfaced in 2004. For many years the track was associated with the Macedon Ranges Cycling Club, hosting club racing, pursuits, time trials, handicaps and match racing. It represents an interesting piece of Victoria’s regional cycling history and the era when outdoor velodromes were an important part of cycling communities across the state. There is, however, an important update for riders. Council information indicates the velodrome no longer meets contemporary track-cycling standards, while more recent local information reports that the surface and associated building have deteriorated and the facility is no longer actively used by a cycling club. Plans have been progressing to convert Hurry Reserve to a dedicated dog park, meaning its future as a functioning velodrome is uncertain. RTS Tip: This one is worth listing for its cycling history, but I’d flag it on RTS as a former/historic velodrome rather than recommending it as a current riding facility. If riders are visiting specifically to ride the track, check the latest status with Macedon Ranges Shire Council first, as Hurry Reserve is undergoing a change of use and the velodrome may no longer be suitable or available for cycling.
