About this ride
St Leonards BMX Track, on the eastern side of Launceston, Tasmania, is home to the Launceston BMX Club and its dedicated BMX racing facility on St Leonards Road. The track provides a purpose-built venue for BMX racing and skills development, catering for young riders getting started through to experienced racers. The City of Launceston specifically promotes St Leonards as the place to join the local BMX club, distinguishing it from the city’s public pump tracks and MTB networks. The track offers the traditional BMX race experience, with a start gate, straights filled with rollers and jumps, and large banked berms designed for pumping, jumping, cornering and close racing. Rather than being a general mountain bike trail network, St Leonards is focused on short, fast BMX laps and structured skill progression. The location also makes it easy to combine BMX with other cycling around Launceston. The City’s cycling network includes off-road shared paths around St Leonards and the North Esk River, while dedicated mountain biking can be found elsewhere around Launceston, particularly at Kate Reed State Recreation Area and Trevallyn Reserve. RTS Tip: Treat St Leonards as a club BMX race track rather than a public pump track. Check Launceston BMX Club’s current training and race schedule before heading out, particularly if you’re hoping to try BMX for the first time. For casual riding with kids, Launceston also has several public pump tracks, while riders wanting singletrack can head to Kate Reed or Trevallyn.
