About this ride
The Wild Gravel Trail is a 440 km, roughly 85% gravel loop through the Great Southern. It starts and finishes in Gnowangerup, links eight country towns and skirts the Stirling Range (Koi Kyeunu-ruff) and Bluff Knoll. There's about 3,800 m of climbing, and most riders take three to seven days over six stages: Gnowangerup to Ongerup, Ongerup to Bluff Knoll, Bluff Knoll to Mount Barker, Mount Barker to Cranbrook, Cranbrook to Katanning, and back to Gnowangerup. It's designed for gravel bikes but is fine on a mountain bike. You can camp in caravan parks along the route. The route is semi-remote, so plan water and supplies between towns. Take care on the busier sealed sections around Bluff Knoll and Mount Barker, where you'll share the road with fast traffic and road trains.
