About this club
Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club (BSCC) is a long-established cycling club based in Ballarat, Victoria, with deep roots in the city's cycling history and a strong focus on road and track cycling. The modern club was formed through the merger of the historic Ballarat and Sebastopol cycling clubs, bringing together generations of racing history into one community. The club's home base is the Marty Busch Reserve in Sebastopol, where a competition-grade velodrome provides a dedicated venue for track cycling, training and rider development. Cycling has been part of the Sebastopol sporting landscape for well over a century, and the merger of the Ballarat and Sebastopol clubs during the 1970s helped consolidate the city's competitive cycling scene. Road racing is a major part of BSCC, with the club making use of the fantastic riding country surrounding Ballarat. Quiet rural roads around Creswick, Learmonth and the wider Central Highlands provide terrain for road races, handicaps and other competitive events, while Ballarat itself offers plenty of challenging riding around landmarks such as Mount Buninyong and Lake Wendouree. The club also has a strong tradition of track cycling and junior development. Experienced coaches help younger riders build bike handling, race craft and confidence, creating pathways from introductory cycling through to state, national and international competition. The club's coaching history includes riders who have gone on to represent Victoria and Australia, while club volunteers have also delivered inclusive programs helping children learn to ride. BSCC continues to host and support established road events including the Fred Icke Memorial Handicap, maintaining Ballarat's long connection with handicap road racing. The club remains active on the current AusCycling calendar, with racing and events continuing across the region in 2026. Ballarat itself has one of Australia's richest cycling cultures, and BSCC forms an important part of that story. From generations of local racers to modern junior development and competitive road and track programs, the club provides opportunities for riders to develop their skills, challenge themselves and become part of the local cycling community. Whether you're looking to try track cycling, get involved in road racing, introduce a junior to the sport or connect with Ballarat's long-standing cycling community, Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club is a great place to get involved.
