About this club
Balmoral Cycling Club (BCC) is a racing-focused cycling club based at the Brisbane International Cycle Park at Murarrie Recreation Reserve in Brisbane, Queensland. Established in 1946 for local riders from the Balmoral and Bulimba areas, the club has grown into one of Queensland's most active cycling clubs, attracting junior, elite, women and Masters riders from across Brisbane. At the heart of the club is the purpose-built 1.4km criterium circuit at Murarrie, affectionately known as "Muzz". The circuit underwent a major 22-month redevelopment before reopening in late 2024 as part of the Brisbane International Cycle Park, giving the club an outstanding dedicated facility for racing, training and rider development. Criterium racing is a major part of Balmoral's identity, with graded racing held on most Saturday mornings throughout the year. Riders compete across A, B, C, D and Masters grades, with women's-only racing also incorporated into the program at selected events. The focus is on providing safe, competitive racing that caters for different abilities rather than limiting racing to elite-level cyclists. Junior development is one of Balmoral's biggest strengths. Its Junior Development program caters for riders from U9 through to U17, combining coached skills sessions with simulated racing to help young cyclists progressively develop bike handling, bunch skills, confidence and race craft. Developing juniors can progress through club racing and into higher levels of competition, providing a structured pathway from learning the fundamentals through to elite racing. Track cycling also forms part of the club's program. Balmoral runs training sessions at Brisbane's Anna Meares Velodrome, including dedicated preparation for riders heading towards State Track Championships. The club supports men's, women's and Masters racing teams, creating further opportunities for riders wanting to take their cycling beyond grassroots club competition. Balmoral also hosts some significant events on the Queensland cycling calendar. These include the Balmoral Junior and Women's Tour, one of the state's major competitions specifically supporting junior and female riders, and the Balmoral Metropolitan Championships, which combines high-level road and criterium competition. The strength of Balmoral's development pathway can be seen in the riders progressing through the club. In 2026, multiple Balmoral juniors were selected in the Queensland team for the AusCycling Junior Road National Championships, with club riders represented across both the U15 and U17 categories. Behind the racing is a strong volunteer community built around safety, sportsmanship, rider development and involvement in the sport. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to cycling, learn the skills needed for bunch racing, try criterium racing, develop your track cycling or pursue higher-level competition, Balmoral Cycling Club provides one of Brisbane's strongest pathways into competitive cycling.
