About this club

Bankstown Sports Cycling Club (BSCC) is a long-established road and track cycling club based in Bass Hill in Sydney's south-west, and is the resident cycling club at the iconic Dunc Gray Velodrome, the track cycling venue built for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The club caters for juniors through to Masters, providing opportunities for riders to train, race and develop their skills across both track and road cycling. The modern club was formed in March 1970 as Bankstown Sports Amateur Cycling Club, following an approach by Canterbury-Bankstown Cycling Club to Bankstown District Sports Club. It quickly developed a strong competitive reputation and has produced numerous state and national champions and internationally recognised cyclists during more than five decades of racing. Track cycling is at the heart of the club. Regular training at Dunc Gray Velodrome includes dedicated junior sessions alongside senior training, motor-paced work and the club's popular longer paceline sessions. Visiting riders from other AusCycling clubs are also welcomed, making the velodrome an important training hub for the wider Sydney cycling community. There's a clear pathway for younger riders, with junior-specific track training focused on bike skills, paceline riding and progressive development. From there, riders can move into competitive track racing, with the club's events catering across junior, open and Masters categories. BSCC also runs a substantial racing program. Its Friday Night Track Series at Dunc Gray combines sprint and endurance racing, Keirins and wheelraces, with dedicated junior grades and graded racing designed to accommodate riders with different strengths and experience levels. The emphasis isn't only on high-level competition – the club specifically uses these events to help develop grassroots cycling while still providing quality racing for experienced riders. Away from the boards, Bankstown runs road and criterium racing at Lansdowne Reserve, including racing delivered in collaboration with neighbouring clubs such as Lidcombe Auburn Cycling Club. Graded racing provides opportunities for men, women and junior riders, while inter-club competition helps connect BSCC members with the broader Sydney racing community. Another highlight is the Bankstown Sports Cup, formerly known as the Sydney Cup. Hosted at Dunc Gray Velodrome, the track carnival brings together Juniors, U23, Elite and Masters riders for a varied program of racing and continues Bankstown's long association with competitive track cycling. The club has an impressive history of rider development, but it also has a strong volunteer and coaching legacy. Long-time club figure Alex Fulcher became NSW head coach, held senior roles within Cycling NSW and Cycling Australia, coached world champions and riders to dozens of Australian and NSW titles, and was recognised with both an MBE and OAM for his contribution to cycling. Whether you're looking to introduce a junior to track cycling, experience riding the boards at an Olympic velodrome, join structured training, try criterium racing or pursue higher-level road and track competition, Bankstown Sports Cycling Club offers a fantastic pathway into competitive cycling in Sydney.
