About this club

Brisbane Cycling Club (BNECC) is a large and inclusive cycling club based in Brisbane, Queensland, bringing together everyone from riders taking their first steps into road cycling through to experienced bunch riders and competitive racers. With more than 500 active members, the club has built its community around three core values – safety, friendship and development. The club's story began in 2012 as Cyc'd Cycling Club, formed by a small group of riders who wanted to turn their regular rides and coffee stops into a more organised cycling community. The club quickly grew, maintaining its social roots while expanding to support members interested in racing and more challenging cycling events. In November 2016, members voted to rename the organisation Brisbane Cycling Club, creating BNECC as it is known today. Regular guided group rides are the heart and soul of the club. BNECC has scheduled rides on most days of the week, with its biggest program running on Sundays. Rather than expecting everyone to ride at the same speed, the club uses four main pace and ability groups – G1, G2, G3 and G4 – with routes and speeds tailored to the riders in each group. For newcomers to road cycling, G4 provides an entry point into bunch riding, helping riders learn the ropes while developing fitness and confidence. At the other end of the spectrum, faster groups provide challenging training for experienced cyclists and racers. This structure means riders can find a bunch that suits where they are now and progressively move between groups as their fitness, skills and goals develop. Safety is a major focus across the program. Club rides are led by AusCycling-certified Road Ride Leaders, and BNECC has developed dedicated bunch-riding rules covering communication, hazards and predictable riding within a group. The club also has a number of road cycling coaches within its membership, adding another layer of experience for riders wanting to develop their cycling. While social riding remains central to BNECC, the club also caters for members who want to race and pursue more competitive cycling goals. Its current committee includes dedicated Race, Women's Racing and Coaching directors, reflecting the pathways available for members wanting to move from recreational bunch riding into competition and structured development. The social side of cycling remains just as important as performance. Brisbane Cycling Club grew out of a group of riders who enjoyed riding together and stopping for coffee, and that sense of community continues to shape the club today. Its focus is as much about friendship, shared experiences and enjoying life on and off the bike as it is about kilometres, speed or race results. Whether you're looking to learn how to ride safely in a bunch, find a regular social ride, meet other Brisbane cyclists, improve your fitness or develop towards competitive road cycling, Brisbane Cycling Club provides a welcoming community with plenty of opportunities to ride.
