About this club

Byron Bay Cycle Club (BBCC) is an inclusive cycling club based in Byron Bay on the NSW Northern Rivers, bringing together recreational riders, regular bunch cyclists and competitive racers. The club's focus is on creating a healthy, enjoyable cycling and triathlon community, with opportunities for riders of different ages, abilities and ambitions to get involved. Social and training rides are at the heart of club life. BBCC runs multiple rides throughout the week, with groups catering for different speeds and fitness levels. Its current structure ranges from faster A and B training bunches through to C groups and a more relaxed D group offering a no-drop option, helping riders find a bunch appropriate to their experience and goals. Saturday is particularly social, with a dedicated Saturday Social Ride running throughout the year. Riders head out in two speed groups, each supported by ride captains and sweepers, to explore the beautiful coastal and hinterland roads surrounding Byron Bay. The emphasis is on riding together, helping newcomers understand bunch-riding etiquette and, naturally, finishing back in Byron for coffee. For riders who want to experience competition, BBCC has developed a strong criterium racing program at the Cavanbah Centre on Ewingsdale Road. The facility can be configured into a roughly 1km criterium circuit and hosts much of the club's racing. Events are graded to cater for different abilities, with dedicated opportunities for juniors alongside senior racing. Importantly, the club actively encourages first-time racers. New riders are advised to begin in the lower grades while they learn bunch positioning, cornering, race etiquette and tactics, rather than feeling they need to be an experienced racer before getting involved. BBCC also participates in interclub competition with other Northern Rivers clubs, creating opportunities for members to experience a broader regional racing scene. The club's riding interests extend beyond conventional road cycling too. Cyclocross sessions feature in the weekly program, while members also get involved in gravel riding, bikepacking and other cycling adventures around the region and further afield. There's also flexibility for riders who enjoy the social side of the club without wanting a full racing membership. BBCC offers a Ride Passport specifically for social riders who aren't looking to race but still want to participate in club rides and support the organisation. Behind all of this is a strong focus on safety, inclusion and community. Locals and visitors are welcome on club rides, making BBCC particularly relevant in a destination like Byron Bay where plenty of cyclists arrive wanting to discover the area with people who know the local roads. Whether you're looking to find a friendly bunch, explore the Byron hinterland, build confidence riding in a group, try your first criterium or get involved in competitive road cycling, Byron Bay Cycle Club provides a great connection to the cycling community of Byron Bay and the wider Northern Rivers.
