About this club
Canberra Cycling Club (CCC) is one of Australia's oldest and most established cycling clubs, bringing together junior, recreational and competitive riders across road, criterium and track cycling in the ACT. Celebrating its centenary in 2026, the club combines a long history of Australian cycling with an active modern racing and rider-development program. During the warmer months, one of the biggest fixtures on the club calendar is the Wednesday Night Summer Criterium Series at Stromlo Forest Park. Held on the purpose-built criterium circuit, the series offers multiple grades so riders can compete against others of similar ability, from newcomers learning the ropes through to some of Canberra's strongest racers. Junior-specific racing forms part of the program too, creating a genuine pathway into the sport. Road cycling continues throughout the year, with CCC running road races, individual time trials, hill climbs and other competitive events on courses throughout the ACT. The club also works closely with neighbouring organisations including Vikings Cycling Club to deliver a broader regional racing calendar, giving Canberra riders access to varied courses and race formats. Track cycling is another important part of the club. Racing and supervised training take place at the Narrabundah Velodrome, giving riders an opportunity to develop speed, strength, bike handling and race craft in a controlled environment. This combination of road, criterium and track means members can experience several forms of competitive cycling without needing to belong to separate clubs. Junior development is one of Canberra Cycling Club's real strengths. Its program caters from approximately U7 through to U19, with dedicated training at Stromlo Forest Park during the summer criterium season. Younger and developing riders can learn fundamental cycling skills before progressing into junior handicap racing, Junior Whites and eventually open graded competition. Junior-category criterium racing is also offered free of race-entry fees, helping make regular participation more accessible for families. The club's junior development program introduces newer riders to skills including bike handling, braking, changing gears and basic race tactics, with the focus on creating a safe and enjoyable introduction to sporting cycling. For the youngest Junior Handicap riders, the barrier to entry is kept particularly low, with any suitable two-wheeled bike accepted rather than requiring families to immediately purchase a dedicated race bike. CCC also plays a role in delivering larger events. In 2026 it partnered with Vikings Cycling Club to host the Canberra Junior & Women's Tour, a four-stage event incorporating criterium, road race, individual time trial and the Mount Stromlo Hill Climb. The event formed part of both the NSW/ACT Junior Road Series and U19 National Road Series. The club has an impressive record of developing riders who have progressed onto the international stage, with its own history recognising riders including Jay Vine, Nathan Hart, Chloe Hosking and Gracie Elvin among those to have represented CCC at the highest levels of the sport. Despite that racing pedigree, the club isn't exclusively about competition. CCC also runs an inclusive social bunch ride, while its stated focus remains on creating better racing opportunities for riders of different abilities and supporting members in achieving their own cycling goals. Whether you're looking to get a junior into cycling, try your first criterium, learn track racing, join road competition or develop towards state, national and international racing, Canberra Cycling Club provides one of the ACT's strongest pathways into competitive cycling.
