About this club
Central Tablelands Mountain Bike Club (CTMBC) is based in Lithgow, NSW, and has some serious history behind it. Formed in 1984, it was one of the first standalone mountain bike clubs in Australia, with club members also involved in establishing the sport’s original national governing body, the Australian Mountain Bike Association (AMBA). More than four decades later, the club remains an active part of the Central West mountain biking community. A major home base for the club is Rydal, around 15 kilometres west of Lithgow, where CTMBC maintains trails through Lidsdale State Forest under a permit arrangement with Forestry Corporation of NSW. Starting from Rydal Showground, riders can access a network of natural singletrack and forest trails, while the club’s long-running Tuesday night races provide a regular opportunity for locals to get together and ride. Despite the racing heritage, the club sums up its approach pretty simply: they just like riding bikes. CTMBC also has a strong history of organising racing and supporting the broader Central West MTB scene, including hosting rounds of the Central West Inter-Club series at Rydal. The club’s involvement extends beyond events, with members playing an important role in maintaining existing trails, advocating for mountain biking and developing new riding opportunities around Lithgow. One of the club's biggest projects is now taking shape at State Mine Gully in Lithgow. In August 2026, development consent was granted for the Lithgow Mountain Bike Park, unlocking plans for approximately 25 kilometres of purpose-built mountain bike and walking trails designed by World Trail. The project is being delivered through a collaboration involving CTMBC, Lithgow City Council, State Mine Heritage Park and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, with completion currently targeted for late 2027. RTS TIP: Rydal is a great introduction to the club's old-school riding roots, but keep an eye on what's happening closer to Lithgow too. With the State Mine Gully project now approved, this little club that has been riding since 1984 is helping shape what could become a major new MTB destination just a couple of hours from Sydney
Primary trails: Rydal MTB trails, Lithgow area, Hassans Wall
