Geelong Mountain Bike Club

Geelong Mountain Bike Club (GMBC) is a long-established, volunteer-run mountain bike club based in Geelong, Victoria, with the You Yangs Regional Park serving as its home territory. The club has been actively advocating for mountain biking since the mid-1990s and has built a strong reputation for welcoming riders into the sport through racing, social riding, skills development and junior programs. The You Yangs are at the heart of much of the club’s activity, with GMBC running events across both Kurrajong and Stockyards. Kurrajong offers flatter, more approachable trails that work particularly well for families and newer riders, while Stockyards steps things up with rocky terrain, technical descents and more challenging cross-country riding. GMBC has worked alongside Parks Victoria and You Yangs MTB Inc on sustainable trail development and maintenance within the park. GMBC runs a busy calendar of cross-country racing, social rides, skills sessions and trail maintenance days, including its popular No Frills race series. The emphasis is very much on accessible, friendly competition, with opportunities for riders across different ages and abilities to have a crack at racing without needing to take things too seriously. Junior development is a particularly strong part of the club. The Dirt Squirts program has grown from just a handful of children in 2011 to regularly attracting more than 100 young riders, providing skills sessions and racing for kids from under-six through to under-15. The club also supports older juniors through Young Guns, while Dirt Girls provides dedicated social riding opportunities for women.
