Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club

Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club (GCMTB) has been part of the Gold Coast riding scene since 1990, when it was established by a group of local mountain bikers keen to grow the sport in South East Queensland. With a strong history across cross-country, downhill and gravity enduro, the club today focuses largely on XC and all-mountain riding, combining racing with social rides, skills development and plenty of work behind the scenes supporting local trails. The club’s main playground is Nerang National Park, just a short trip inland from the Gold Coast. The park offers a big mix of rocky, technical and natural-feeling riding, with 20 designated MTB trails alongside shared trails through the park. Nerang also has some serious racing credentials, having hosted mountain biking for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with sections of the Commonwealth Games course still there for riders to tackle today. GCMTB runs social rides, skills development sessions, cross-country events and Gravity Enduro racing, catering for riders who want everything from a friendly introduction to the local trails through to competitive racing. Nerang's extensive network can be tricky to navigate if you've never ridden there before, so the club itself recommends joining a social ride as one of the best ways to learn your way around. Trail advocacy and stewardship are also a major part of the club's history. GCMTB has worked with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, City of Gold Coast, Seqwater and local trail-care groups, with its partnership with the Nerang Trail Care Alliance helping improve and expand the authorised trail network within Nerang National Park. The club has also been involved in advocacy and trail development discussions around Mt Tamborine and Hinze Dam. RTS TIP: Nerang is definitely one where local knowledge helps! With a sprawling network and plenty of raw, rocky singletrack tucked away in the bush, jump on a GCMTB social ride if you get the chance.
