Inside Line Downhill MTB Club

Inside Line Downhill Mountain Bike Club (Inside Line MTB) is an Adelaide-based mountain bike club dedicated to downhill and gravity riding across South Australia. Formed in 1994, the club grew from a group of riders passionate about technical descending at a time when legal mountain bike trails were scarce, and has since become one of the state's most established gravity MTB organisations. Today, Inside Line has more than 400 members and runs downhill events ranging from accessible club-level racing through to the South Australian State Series, State Championships and national-level competition. Its State-level events commonly attract around 150–200 competitors, with riders ranging from juniors through to 55+ Masters and from newcomers to professional-level racers. Downhill is firmly at the centre of the club. Inside Line's racing takes riders to gravity venues across South Australia rather than being tied to a single home track. Previous and current venues include Fox Creek Bike Park, Eagle MTB Park, Willunga, Kersbrook, O'Halloran Hill, Mount Torrens, Angaston and Mount Gambier, providing everything from approachable introductory courses to demanding State and National-level downhill tracks. The club provides a particularly good pathway for riders wanting to try downhill racing without immediately jumping into a State Series event. Its club-level First Descent Series uses milder courses, a more relaxed single-day format and plenty of mentoring and support. Riders can enter from the year they turn 11, while the more challenging two-day State Series opens from the year riders turn 13. That progression is important because Inside Line has a long history of junior rider development. The club describes developing young South Australian riders as one of its key roles and has helped produce riders capable of competing at the highest levels of the sport. Coaching and rider-development opportunities are also available through the club's development partner, Head for the Hills, with programs for both junior and senior riders. Racing categories are broad enough to accommodate very different riders. Alongside junior age groups and Elite competition, events include Sport, Expert, Veterans, Masters and Super Masters, with additional categories such as Chainless, Hardtail, Retro and E-Bike appearing within the club's racing structure. Inside Line isn't exclusively about racing either. The club runs recreational ride days and Come & Try activities, giving riders opportunities to experience gravity riding and the club community without necessarily committing to a full racing season. The club also plays an important role behind the scenes of South Australian mountain biking. Since its earliest years, Inside Line has advocated for legal MTB access and purpose-built gravity trails, worked on trail development and maintenance and helped secure funding for projects. At Fox Creek Bike Park, the official history specifically credits Inside Line with developing the reserve's gravity trail network during the early years of organised MTB development. While downhill is its core discipline, Inside Line also collaborates with other South Australian clubs. In 2026 it partnered with Gravity Enduro SA and Gravity Girls SA on a shuttled Downduro at Fox Creek, and worked with Gravity Girls on a dedicated downhill round designed to provide a supportive racing opportunity for women and girls. Inside Line continues to operate at the top end of Australian downhill racing as well. Willunga hosted Round 4 of the 2026 AusCycling MTB National Series Downhill alongside Round 2 of the Inside Line State Series, demonstrating the club's ability to deliver events from grassroots level right through to national competition.
