Nerang BMX Club

Nerang BMX Club is a long-established BMX racing club based in Nerang on Queensland’s Gold Coast, providing a welcoming and family-focused environment for riders of virtually all ages and abilities. Established in 1979, the club has grown into one of the region’s prominent BMX communities, catering for everyone from young Mini Wheelers discovering life on two wheels through to experienced adult and competitive riders. BMX racing is at the heart of the club, with riders able to develop their skills through practice, coaching and regular club competition before progressing into larger interclub, State and National events. Different age and ability classes make the sport accessible to developing riders while still providing challenging racing for experienced competitors. For the youngest riders, Mini Wheelers provide an introduction to the BMX environment using balance bikes, while Sprocket classes give young pedal-bike riders an opportunity to continue developing their confidence and race skills. From there, riders can progress through age classes and into higher levels of competition as their ability and ambitions grow. Nerang has a strong emphasis on being beginner and family friendly. The club actively encourages new riders to get involved and describes BMX as a sport for a remarkably broad age range, with members ready to help newcomers begin their BMX journey. This makes the club suitable not only for aspiring racers but for families looking for an active sport they can become involved in together. The club’s dedicated BMX track is located at the corner of Cayuga Street and Mortensen Road in Nerang. It is a well-established competition venue with a reputation for tight and technical racing, providing riders with plenty of opportunity to develop bike handling, jumping, cornering, gate starts and race craft. The quality of the facility has also seen Nerang entrusted with some of the biggest events in Australian BMX. The club has hosted AusCycling BMX National Championships, National Series competition and Queensland State Championships, demonstrating its ability to deliver racing from grassroots club level through to major championship events. Nerang has also produced and supported riders competing at the highest levels of the sport, with club members progressing into elite, national and international BMX competition. This gives developing riders a genuine pathway while still retaining the community atmosphere of a volunteer-powered local club.
