About this club
Northern Sydney Cycling Club (NSCC) is a long-established road cycling club based around Hornsby, Thornleigh and Sydney’s Upper North Shore, bringing together social riders, developing cyclists and experienced racers. With roots stretching back to around 1930, the club combines a strong road-racing tradition with regular bunch riding, junior development and opportunities for riders to progress through the sport. Road cycling is at the heart of NSCC, with members participating in everything from social and training rides to graded criterium and road racing. The club caters for different ages and abilities, making it possible to get involved whether you’re looking for people to ride with, developing your bunch skills or aiming to compete at higher levels. One of the club’s best-known racing traditions is its Beaumont Road criterium racing at Mount Ku-ring-gai, affectionately known as the “Beauie Worlds”. NSCC has been racing on the Beaumont Road circuit since the 1980s, with graded racing allowing riders to compete alongside others of similar ability. Junior racing also forms part of the club’s competitive pathway. Away from racing, regular bunch and training rides are an important part of club life. Routes explore some of northern Sydney’s best-known road cycling areas, including Bobbin Head, Akuna Bay, Terrey Hills and the surrounding North Shore, providing everything from challenging climbs and longer endurance rides to opportunities to develop confidence riding safely in a group. Junior development is a particular strength of Northern Sydney Cycling Club. Through its relationship with the Northside Cycling Academy, young riders can develop cycling skills, fitness, race craft and confidence in a structured and supportive environment. The development pathway caters for young cyclists from grassroots participation through to riders with ambitions to compete at State, National and higher levels. While NSCC itself is primarily a road club, its junior development pathway exposes young riders to a broader cycling skill set, including road, track and mountain biking, helping them become capable and versatile cyclists before choosing where they want to take the sport. The club also supports riders who want to progress further in competition, with development pathways for junior, Elite and Masters racers. Coaching, mentoring and club support help bridge the gap between grassroots racing and higher-level competition while allowing riders to continue representing their local club. Importantly, you don’t have to race to join NSCC. Social membership and bunch riding provide a way for cyclists to enjoy the community side of the club, meet other local riders and improve their skills without needing to enter competition. With a history built on generations of riders, racers, coaches, officials and volunteers, Northern Sydney Cycling Club remains an important part of the cycling community across Sydney’s northern suburbs. Whether you’re looking to find a local bunch, develop your road-riding skills, introduce a junior to cycling, try criterium racing or work towards higher levels of competition, Northern Sydney Cycling Club provides a welcoming pathway into road cycling on Sydney’s North Shore.
