About this club

Southern City BMX Club is a welcoming and family-focused BMX racing club based at Pembroke Park in Sorell, Southern Tasmania, providing opportunities for riders of all ages and abilities to discover BMX, develop their skills and experience competitive racing. As the only registered BMX club in Southern Tasmania, Southern City plays an important role in providing a dedicated BMX community for riders from Hobart, Sorell and the wider south-east. The club caters for everyone from very young children beginning their cycling journey through to teenagers, adults and experienced competitors. BMX racing is at the heart of the club, combining speed, bike handling, jumping, cornering and race craft in an exciting short-course format. Riders can begin at grassroots level and progress through the different BMX categories as their confidence, skills and competitive experience develop. For younger riders, Mini Wheelers and Sprockets provide an accessible pathway into the sport before progressing into age-group racing. Older riders can continue through Challenge, Cruiser, Masters and higher-performance categories, making BMX a sport where children, parents and adults can all participate within the same club community. Southern City places a strong emphasis on welcoming new riders. Come & Try opportunities allow people to experience BMX in a supportive environment, while coaching and practice sessions help riders develop the fundamental skills needed to safely and confidently tackle the track. Gate practice and coaching are regular parts of club life. Riders can work on their starts, jumping, cornering, race lines and overall bike handling, with development opportunities suitable for beginners as well as experienced racers wanting to improve their performance. The club's home at Pembroke Park in Sorell features a national-standard BMX race track capable of supporting grassroots riding through to significant competition. The facility provides Southern Tasmania with a dedicated BMX venue and gives local riders the opportunity to develop on the same track used for higher-level racing. Southern City also provides a pathway beyond local competition. Club riders compete at State, National and international levels, demonstrating the opportunities available for riders who want to take their BMX further while remaining connected to their local club. Despite the competitive opportunities, Southern City's identity remains firmly grounded in family and community. The club is volunteer-run, with riders, parents, coaches, officials and supporters contributing to racing, training, track maintenance and the wider operation of the club. Whether you're looking to introduce a young child to BMX, try racing for the first time, improve your gate starts and bike skills, race with the family or progress towards higher levels of competition, Southern City BMX Club provides a welcoming home for BMX racing in Southern Tasmania.
