About this club
Sutherland Shire Cycling Club (SSCC) is a welcoming multi-discipline cycling club based at Waratah Park in Sutherland, southern Sydney, bringing together recreational riders and racers across road, track, gravel and mountain biking. With cycling roots in the Sutherland Shire stretching back more than a century, the club has developed into a diverse community where riders of different ages, abilities and cycling interests can find opportunities to ride, develop their skills and compete. Road cycling remains an important part of the club's identity. Regular social and training rides explore the Sutherland Shire and surrounding areas, including the spectacular roads of the Royal National Park. Different ride groups cater for varying levels of fitness and experience, with supportive options available for riders developing their bunch-riding confidence alongside faster training groups for more experienced cyclists. For those interested in competition, SSCC provides opportunities to experience criterium and road racing, with graded competition allowing riders to develop their race craft in an accessible club environment. Time trials and other race formats add variety for riders who enjoy testing themselves against both the clock and other cyclists. The club also has a genuine mountain biking program, with a purpose-built short-track course located behind its Sutherland clubhouse. Short-track racing gives riders an accessible and fast-paced introduction to off-road competition while providing experienced mountain bikers with another opportunity to race locally. Track cycling forms another part of the club's broad cycling offering, allowing riders to develop speed, bike handling, bunch skills and race tactics. The club's multi-discipline approach makes it possible for riders to experience different forms of cycling while remaining part of the same community. SSCC also embraces gravel and mixed-surface riding, reflecting the increasingly diverse way its members explore the region by bike. Developing riders are well supported, with skills, mentoring and introductory opportunities helping cyclists become more confident before progressing into group riding or competition. The club also actively encourages women's participation, creating a supportive environment for women wanting to build their riding confidence, improve bunch skills, join social rides or discover racing. The club's Sutherland base provides an ideal connection between organised cycling and recreational riding. Riders have access to club facilities and purpose-built cycling infrastructure while being just minutes from some of Sydney's most popular road and off-road riding areas. Like many successful cycling organisations, SSCC is supported by a strong network of riders, families, officials and volunteers who contribute to racing, rides, events and the ongoing operation of the club. Whether you're looking to find a social bunch ride, explore the Royal National Park, try criterium or mountain bike racing, develop your cycling skills or simply connect with other riders in southern Sydney, Sutherland Shire Cycling Club provides a welcoming home across multiple cycling disciplines.
