About this club

Waratah Masters Cycling Club (WMCC) is one of NSW's largest Masters cycling clubs, providing friendly and competitive racing for cyclists across Sydney and surrounding areas. Established in 1994, the Waratahs continue a much longer tradition of cycling competition associated with Homebush Bay. The club evolved from the former Homebush Veteran Cyclists Club and has grown into a substantial racing community built around competition, fitness, friendship and a shared love of cycling. Road racing is at the heart of the club, with a broad program of graded competition designed to accommodate riders with different levels of fitness and racing experience. Racing across multiple grades means cyclists can compete against others of similar ability, creating close competition for experienced racers while providing a more approachable pathway for riders taking their first steps into the sport. Criterium and closed-circuit racing form a major part of the Waratahs experience. The club races across several established Sydney cycling and motorsport circuits, providing varied courses and racing conditions throughout the year. Traditional road races and individual time trials add further variety, allowing riders to test everything from bunch-racing tactics and sprinting through to endurance and individual speed. The Waratahs also maintain a genuine connection with track cycling, with track racing and championships forming part of the club's competitive program. This gives members opportunities to experience another side of the sport and develop their speed, tactics and bike-handling skills on the velodrome. Although competition is central to the club, the Waratahs place particular emphasis on making racing approachable. New competitors are encouraged to give the sport a try, with grading helping riders find an appropriate level of competition and experienced members and officials available to help newcomers understand racing procedures and expectations. Training and recreational rides also provide opportunities for members to improve their fitness, riding skills and bunch-riding experience outside competition. The club is supported by a strong community of riders, commissaires, race officials and volunteers, whose contribution allows the Waratahs to deliver a substantial grassroots racing program across Sydney. Whether you're an experienced Masters racer, returning to competition after time away or an established cyclist looking to pin on a number for the first time, Waratah Masters Cycling Club provides a welcoming pathway into competitive road and track cycling in Sydney.
