Bellarine Rail Trail
About this ride
The Bellarine Rail Trail is a 35km shared trail connecting South Geelong with Queenscliff, following the alignment of the former Geelong–Queenscliff railway. The route leaves Geelong and travels through Moolap, Leopold and Drysdale before crossing rolling farmland and wetlands on its way to the coast at Queenscliff. From Drysdale, the trail runs alongside sections of the heritage Bellarine Railway, adding a little railway history to the ride. The trail is sealed from South Geelong to Drysdale before changing to predominantly compacted crushed rock through to Queenscliff. Mostly flat with a few gradual climbs, it’s suitable for a wide range of riders and bikes, with plenty of opportunities to shorten the ride by starting at Leopold or Drysdale. RTS Tip: For a great shorter option, start at Drysdale and ride the 17km to Queenscliff, where you can grab lunch or explore the waterfront before heading back. If tackling the full trail, remember it’s around 70km return, and watch for the major road crossings along the route.
