Burramoko Ridge (Hanging Rock) trail

The Burramoko Ridge (Hanging Rock) Trail near Blackheath is a scenic 10km return mountain bike ride through Blue Mountains National Park, following a broad fire trail along Burramoko Ridge towards the edge of the spectacular Grose Wilderness. Rated medium by NSW National Parks, the trail winds through heathland and open forest before reaching a turning circle near Baltzer Lookout (Hanging Rock). From here, leave the bike behind and walk the short final track to the lookout for huge views across the Grose Valley and surrounding sandstone cliffs. Allow around two hours for the ride, plus plenty of time to take in the view. RTS Tip: Ride from the locked gate at the end of Ridgewell Road, or add a few extra kilometres by starting from Blackheath and make use of the train station. Bikes need to be left at the turning circle before the final walk to Hanging Rock, and the lookout is completely unfenced with significant cliff drops, so stay well back from the edge. This is also a remote area, so carry water, basic bike spares and navigation and check current National Parks alerts before heading out.
