Brownhill Creek Recreation Park

Brownhill Creek Recreation Park offers a scenic shared-use riding experience just 8km from Adelaide, following the narrow creek valley beneath huge river red gums and blue gum woodland. The main Shared Use Trail is around 3km one way and can be ridden by bikes, with a relatively gentle route through the heart of the park past historic sites including old manure pits, quarries and remnants of the area’s early market-gardening history. The park is culturally significant to the Kaurna people, who knew the area as Wirraparinga — meaning scrub and camping place. While the park itself offers a relatively short ride, it makes a useful gateway into Adelaide’s wider trail network. More adventurous riders can continue beyond Brownhill Creek towards Pony Ridge and Belair National Park, opening up longer rides with steeper climbs and more challenging terrain. RTS Tip: Stick to the designated Shared Use Trail, public roads and trails specifically open to bikes — the park’s dedicated walking trails aren’t open to mountain bikes. Brownhill Creek Recreation Park closes on Catastrophic Fire Danger days and may also close during Extreme Fire Danger, so check current park conditions before heading out during warmer weather.
