Cascades Trail
About this ride
The Cascades Trail is an epic 30km point-to-point mountain bike adventure dropping from the summit of Lake Mountain to Marysville in Victoria’s High Country. With around 1,550m of descending and 500m of climbing, the trail takes riders through changing alpine environments, from snow gums and granite at the summit to fern-lined forest and valley terrain as you descend towards Marysville. Rated a deep blue/intermediate trail with advanced features, Cascades packs plenty into its 3–5 hour journey, including steep berms, rock gardens, slabs, jumps, rollers, fast sections and some solid climbs. It’s a true adventure ride rather than a cruisy gravity descent, with remote sections and no facilities once you leave the Lake Mountain summit. RTS Tip: This is a directional point-to-point ride, so organise your transport before setting off — either book a bike shuttle from Marysville or arrange your own drop-off at Lake Mountain. Carry plenty of water, food, tools and spares as there are no facilities along the trail, and check seasonal opening and trail conditions before heading up as riding is generally available from November to April, depending on snow.
