About this ride

Cox’s Road is a historical pass up and down the mountain, it is a very popular tourist route for hikers that’s sanctioned for mountain biking. The trail drops around 250 m over less than 3 km, making it a fast, rocky and technical ride that demands solid bike handling skills. Several lookouts along Mount York Road add extra interest and make it a great hit out on a trail or enduro bike. This is a shared trail frequently used by walkers, so stay alert, slow down when approaching others, and always give way. If you’re approaching from Mount Victoria, there are short sections of singletrack running along the left side of Mount York Road that offer an alternative line before reaching the main descent. At the bottom of Cox’s Road, you can no longer follow the sealed road through to Berghoffers Pass. Instead, turn right toward Lawsons Long Alley to continue the loop and hike‑a‑bike your way back up to Mount Victoria. The paddocks at the end of Cox's road can become very wet and muddy so best to avoid after heavy rain. For more detail on linking these historic routes, see the linked Lockyers / Lawsons Long Alley Loop ride card. Facilities: Toilets are available at Mount York.
