About this ride

The Dial Range Mountain Bike Network, rising behind Penguin on Tasmania’s North-West Coast, delivers a more backcountry feel compared to the Penguin MTB Park just next door. There are three trails to choose from, the Montgomery Loop, Iron Tor and Ironcliffe Ridge. The Montgomery Loop is the first official MTB trail in the Dial Range. At about 6km in length with easy grading, this trail is an awesome introduction to the Dial Range and can be ridden in combination with the trails of the Penguin MTB park. This trail consists of a well graded climb with three very different styled descents with flavours of flow, natural and park, enough to put a smile on your dial (pun intended). Iron Tor is a 6km bolder strewn, berm filled, adrenaline pumping loop that starts with a solid climb but you are rewarded with a descent that leads you back onto the Montgomery Loop, with and option to do the Ironcliffe Ridge trail or take the lookout detour halfway down the descent. The Trail is a blue/black rated trail with black features. Caution is need for less experienced riders or sending it for the first time. The Ironcliffe Ridge trail is a 1.4km out and back trail, that will lead you from the Iron Tor Climb and continue the climb to the Mount Dial Summit. Some of the best MTB trail views out to the west can be had from three lookouts along the trail as well at the view out to the east from the summit of Mount Dial. There is an 8km extension planned for this trail in the very near future.
