Dixon Veloway
About this ride
Dixon Veloway is Melbourne's elevated, bike-only path along Footscray Road, opened for riders on VeloDay (December 2025) as part of the West Gate Tunnel Project. The Victorian Government Premier's Office and West Gate Tunnel coverage describe a 2.5 kilometre, four-metre-wide dedicated cycling path running between Shepherd Bridge in Footscray and the city side of Moonee Ponds Creek, linking toward Federation Trail and Docklands. It removes the need to cross six busy port and arterial intersections, with lighting, CCTV, alarmed exits and emergency vehicle access. Official wording presents it as a safer, more comfortable journey for riders of every ability. Named for Iris Dixon, Australian cycling Hall of Fame inductee and pioneering Victorian road and track champion. RTS Tip: Connect from the Footscray end toward Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and the West Melbourne Jumps Park under CityLink, or continue onto Federation Trail for a west-side loop.
