About this ride

The Domino Rail Trail is a peaceful 6km one-way ride between Trentham and Lyonville in Victoria’s Central Highlands, following part of the former railway line that once connected Daylesford with Carlsruhe. Starting beside the historic Trentham Railway Station, the trail heads through beautiful bushland and into Wombat State Forest, with remnants of the old railway, interpretive signs and plenty of native wildlife along the way. The mostly flat route has a mix of compacted earth and coarse gravel, making it well suited to gravel, hybrid and mountain bikes. Ride it one way or return the same way for an easy-going 12km round trip. RTS Tip: Take your time and keep an eye out for the old railway infrastructure hidden alongside the trail. Near Lyonville you’ll also pass close to the historic Coliban River railway trestle bridge; the bridge itself is unsafe and closed, with a signposted detour around it. Trentham makes a great starting point with cafés and supplies nearby, while Lyonville gives you a handy turnaround point before cruising back through the forest.
