Drake & Rocky River

The Rocky River & Drake Overnighter is a cracking 139km two-day gravel and bikepacking loop starting and finishing in Tenterfield and heading deep into the rugged New England High Country. Around 66% of the route is unsealed, combining quiet gravel roads, doubletrack, river country and remote backroads as it winds towards Drake Village for the overnight stop. Expect around 3,000m of climbing across the full route, with long stretches through granite country, forest and farmland before following the beautiful Timbarra and Rocky River country. Drake provides the perfect halfway break with options for camping, accommodation, food and a well-earned cold drink before tackling day two back towards Tenterfield. RTS Tip: Treat this as a proper remote bikepacking adventure rather than an easy overnight gravel spin. Carry plenty of water, food, spares and offline navigation, and plan your Drake overnight stop and resupply before leaving Tenterfield. Some sections are isolated with limited reception and services, so being self-sufficient is key.
