Emu Trail M12 Cycle Way

The Emu Trail – M12 Cycleway is a fantastic new addition to Western Sydney’s cycling network, providing around 16km of fully separated shared path between the M7 Cycleway and The Northern Road at Luddenham, via Western Sydney International Airport. Opened in 2026 alongside the M12 Motorway, the route is relatively flat and suitable for recreational riders, families, commuters and road cyclists, with the eastern end taking a scenic detour through Western Sydney Parklands and past Wylde MTB & BMX. Along the way, riders will also encounter rest areas, Dharug-inspired artwork and the striking Great Emu in the Sky near the airport interchange. Best of all, the trail connects directly into the wider M7 and Western Sydney cycleway network, opening up some seriously big traffic-free riding possibilities. RTS Tip: Wylde MTB & BMX is the best pit stop along the route, with toilets and drinking water available. There’s currently limited water, food and shade once you’re out on the M12 section, so fill your bottles and carry snacks before continuing. For a bigger adventure, link the Emu Trail with the M7 Cycleway, The Northern Road and Bringelly Road shared paths to create a much longer Western Sydney loop.
