First Turkey MTB Reserve

First Turkey MTB Reserve, tucked into the foothills of Mount Archer just 15 minutes from Rockhampton’s CBD, is one of Central Queensland’s premier mountain biking destinations. Managed by the volunteer-run Rockhampton Mountain Bike Club, the reserve has around 40km of trails and more than 30 individual lines, ranging from green beginner trails through to black gravity terrain. The hub-style network makes it easy to climb once and choose your descent, with local favourites including Finley’s, Scrub Turkey, Wild Pig, Megatron, Cactus, Whitey, Think Tank and K-9. Expect a brilliant mix of flowing singletrack, rocky technical sections, roots, jumps, berms and natural features, with both cross-country and gravity riders very well catered for. RTS Tip: If it’s your first visit, climb Finley’s to Turkey’s Nest and choose your descent from there — Scrub Turkey is a good starting point, while intermediate riders can progress to Wild Pig or the hugely popular Megatron flow trail. First Turkey is generally open around the clock, but closes after heavy rain, so always check Rocky MTB’s current trail conditions before heading out.
