About this ride

Gunyah Return is a rewarding 55km gravel cycling adventure near Tenterfield, taking riders into the quiet backroads and rolling landscapes of the New England High Country. With around 1,000m of climbing, there's plenty packed into the distance. Expect a mixture of gravel roads and sealed sections, rolling country and some solid climbing along the way, making this a good choice for riders wanting a substantial day ride without stepping up to one of Tenterfield's longer bikepacking routes. The real appeal is the setting. The Tenterfield region is surrounded by quiet rural roads, forests, granite country and remote landscapes, creating some brilliant opportunities for gravel riding away from busy traffic. At 55km, Gunyah Return is achievable as a single-day adventure, but the elevation means it's worth allowing plenty of time rather than judging the ride on distance alone. It's best suited to riders with a reasonable level of fitness who are comfortable riding changing gravel surfaces and spending time away from services. There's also loads more gravel riding around Tenterfield, from shorter local loops through to 100km+ adventures and multi-day bikepacking routes, making Gunyah Return a great addition to a longer cycling weekend in the New England High Country. RTS Tip: Some of Tenterfield's gravel rides travel through remote country with limited mobile reception and services. Carry sufficient food and water, basic repair equipment and offline navigation, and check current weather and road conditions before setting out.
