About this ride
Herdsman Lake Regional Park, about 15 minutes from the Perth CBD, has a shared path that runs all the way around the lake. Trails WA lists the Herdsman Loop at 8 km and DBCA describes it as a 7 km shared loop, so it's an easy, flat spin for families and new riders. Along Jon Sanders Drive you can choose the paved dual-use path near the road or a dirt track through a tunnel of paperbarks beside the water. Popular starting points are the Heron Place car park at the south end and Popeye Lake at the north end, which has a playground, picnic shelters and toilets. More than 100 bird species have been recorded here, so it's worth a slow lap. Riders give way to walkers and a 10 km/h speed limit applies on the City of Stirling paths.
