Sydney to Summit – Sydney to Mount Kosciuszko Bikepacking Sydney to Summit is an epic 679km bikepacking journey from Sydney to Mount Kosciuszko, taking riders from Australia's largest city all the way to the highest point in the country. Starting at the iconic Sydney Opera House, the route gradually leaves the city behind and heads through national parks, forests, quiet backroads and remote country on its way towards the Australian Alps. With approximately 13,000 metres of climbing, this is a serious multi-day adventure. The route weaves together bike paths, sealed backroads, gravel roads and doubletrack, creating a constantly changing journey as riders travel from sea level towards the mountains. One of the best parts of Sydney to Summit is watching the landscape transform along the way. The urban start quickly gives way to lush coastal and hinterland forests before the route ventures deeper into regional NSW, eventually reaching open high plains and alpine country. There's some brilliant gravel riding along the journey, but riders should expect much more than smooth gravel roads. Remote sections, changing surfaces, substantial climbing and unpredictable alpine weather all add to the challenge. The ultimate goal is hard to beat — riding from Sydney to Mount Kosciuszko, climbing from sea level to Australia's highest mountain and finishing an enormous journey across NSW under your own power. Sydney to Summit was created as a self-sufficient bikepacking challenge, so riders taking inspiration from the route should be experienced in multi-day riding, navigation, equipment management and travelling through remote areas.
