About this ride

Lake Canobolas MTB Park is a compact, purpose-built mountain bike network at Nashdale, around 10 minutes west of Orange in Central West NSW. Sitting directly opposite Lake Canobolas at the foot of Gaanha bula (Mount Canobolas), it combines accessible cross-country riding with a skills and jump area in a picturesque bush setting. The park has around 8km of cross-country singletrack, arranged as three connected loops that become progressively more challenging as riders move through the network. It’s particularly well suited to beginners, juniors and intermediate riders, while still providing enough technical features to keep more experienced riders entertained. Expect hard-packed clay, rocks, roots, wooden bridges, rock gardens, drops and optional A and B lines, with good signage throughout. There’s also a dedicated skills and jump track, making Lake Canobolas a handy place to practise features or build confidence before tackling harder trails elsewhere around Orange. The trails were originally opened in 2014 and are built and maintained by the Orange Mountain Bike Club in partnership with Orange City Council. The setting adds plenty to the experience, with the network winding through revegetated bushland and offering views back towards Lake Canobolas and Orange. One important current change is that the former black trails at Lake Canobolas are now closed and must not be ridden. Orange Mountain Bike Club advises riders to use its updated trail map rather than older maps that may still show those trails as accessible. Across the road, Lake Canobolas has toilets, picnic facilities, a playground and a kiosk, making this an easy MTB destination for families or groups where not everyone necessarily wants to ride. For riders searching for Orange MTB, Lake Canobolas mountain bike trails, family-friendly MTB in Central West NSW or beginner mountain biking near Orange, this is a great little network to add to the ride list. RTS Tip: Lake Canobolas is ideal for progression rather than huge kilometres. Start with the easier loop and work your way through the connected network before spending some time in the skills area. The MTB park is strictly open 8am–8pm, and dogs aren't permitted within the trail area. Most importantly, use the current Orange MTB Club map — all black trails are now closed.
