Mt Battery, Coombesberg & Long Lane Loop

Starting from Mansfield Botanic Park, the meeting point for many of the local cycling club bunch rides, this scenic gravel loop showcases the rolling countryside surrounding Mansfield with a rewarding climb and fast-flowing gravel descents. Head north towards Mt Buller along Mt Battery Road before joining the gravel on Graves Road. Turn onto Old Tolmie Road and tackle the challenging climb over Coombesberg—the toughest ascent of the ride and well worth the effort. Once over the top, enjoy a long descent before turning onto the gravel of Long Lane, a smooth and enjoyable section that winds through picturesque farmland. Be mindful of several Give Way and Stop intersections, along with one low-lying section that can remain damp after rain. The route briefly follows the Midland Highway before turning onto Carlisle Hill Road, where expansive views across the Mansfield district provide a fitting finale. A final stretch along the Mansfield–Whitfield Road returns you to Mansfield Botanic Park, completing a rewarding gravel ride that combines quiet country roads, stunning scenery and one memorable climb.
