Mapleton Forest
About this ride
Mapleton Forest, within Mapleton National Park in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, offers a mix of dedicated mountain bike and shared-use trails through tall blackbutt forest, rainforest, palm groves and drier woodland. The riding is predominantly intermediate, with natural surfaces, moderate climbs, creek crossings and some steeper sections giving the network an adventurous cross-country feel. The Mapleton Day-use Area is a great starting point, with several rides branching into the forest. Highlights include the 19km Oaky Creek Lookout MTB Trail, offering views across the Conondale Range and Mary Valley, plus the 7.8km Turpentine Trail, 6.7km Piccabeen Circuit and 8.5km Kureelpa Falls Circuit. The latter drops around 200m before climbing back out, with the option to walk down to Kureelpa Falls along the way. RTS Tip: For a first visit, start from the Mapleton Day-use Area, where you’ll find parking, toilets and picnic facilities. Remember that several trails are shared with walkers and horse riders, while the Oaky Creek route also crosses the separate Gheerulla trail-bike track — give way and take extra care at crossings. Avoid riding in strong winds due to the risk of falling branches, and check Queensland Parks alerts before heading out.
