McFarlanes Hill
About this ride
McFarlanes Hill Regional Park is a sprawling bushland reserve on the western edge of Wodonga, Victoria, offering around 20 kilometres of mountain bike trails across rolling hills, rocky outcrops, open grassland and box-stringybark woodland. At more than 2,300 hectares, there's plenty of space to explore, with elevated sections also delivering some great views back across Wodonga and the surrounding countryside. The dedicated riding area is often referred to as Hunchback Mountain Bike Park, with the main MTB access from the corner of Coyles Road and Felltimber Creek Road. The network includes a mixture of purpose-built and realigned trails, with options catering for different skill levels rather than being purely technical riding. Trails take their names from the geology found around McFarlanes Hill, including Mudstone, Slate, Granite, Gneiss and Quartz. The green-graded Mudstone Loop provides a more approachable introduction to the network, while the blue-graded Slate and Granite loops step things up with more challenging terrain. Recent trail works have included realignments, improved wayfinding and maintenance designed to make the network more sustainable and easier to navigate. There's a strong local community behind the trails too. Albury Wodonga Mountain Bikers have contributed significantly to the design, construction and maintenance of the McFarlanes Hill trail network, working alongside Parklands Albury Wodonga and other local stakeholders to develop sustainable riding opportunities across the region. McFarlanes Hill is also easy to combine with Wodonga's wider cycling network, including the nearby Felltimber Loop and connections towards Federation Hill. And if you're making a riding trip of Albury Wodonga, there are plenty more kilometres of singletrack waiting across the border at Nail Can Hill. RTS TIP: Don't confuse McFarlanes Hill with just a walking reserve — there's a dedicated MTB network hiding in these hills! Start from the Coyles Road/Felltimber Creek Road side and use the easier loops to get your bearings before exploring further. If you're visiting Albury Wodonga for a weekend, pair it with Nail Can Hill for two very different local MTB experiences.
