About this ride

Meadowbank MTB, in Tasmania’s beautiful Derwent Valley around one hour from Hobart, offers a boutique mountain biking experience unlike the state’s larger public trail centres. Set across a working farm and the renowned Meadowbank vineyard, the private bike park features around 13 km of purpose-built MTB trails combining flowing descents, ridgeline riding, jumps, playful features and spectacular panoramic views across the Derwent Valley. The trails have been designed around progression and group riding, with options for different skill levels and a strong focus on fun, lower-consequence riding rather than intimidating race-style terrain. A shuttle uplift means riders can spend more time descending and less time climbing, with trails including Merino Way, Pinot Drop, Wine Down, Grasshopper, The Big G and Uncorked. Merino Way provides a long green-rated descent of around 4.7 km, while the wider network gives progressing and experienced riders opportunities to tackle faster trails, jumps and more challenging features. What really sets Meadowbank apart is the complete “ride and wine” experience. MTB sessions can be combined with food and wine at Meadowbank Winery, creating a distinctly Tasmanian riding destination rather than simply another trail network. Access is managed through private group bookings and selected public open days, with public sessions limited to small numbers, so this isn’t a trail network you can simply turn up and ride whenever you like. RTS Tip: Meadowbank MTB is all about quality laps without the crowds, so book ahead and make a day of it. Public open days can be limited to around 30 riders, and the uplift shuttle keeps the laps coming. If you’re travelling through the Derwent Valley, allow time after your ride to enjoy the vineyard setting and local food — this is one MTB destination where hanging around after the final lap is very much part of the experience.
