Mudgee Common

Mudgee Common MTB Trails are a purpose-built mountain bike network right on the edge of Mudgee in Central West NSW, offering around 32km of mapped trails across more than 40 individual trail sections. The network combines professionally machine-built riding with rocky natural terrain, giving riders plenty to explore without travelling far from town. The network caters for a broad range of abilities, with trails graded from easy through to extreme. Expect flowing singletrack, punchy climbs, rocky technical sections, berms and more challenging features as you move onto the harder trails. The official trailhead map makes it easy to link different trails into loops that suit your ability and how long you want to ride. Popular trails include Giddy Up, Elevator, Mushrooms, Slinky, Butcher, Mayhem, Ant Hill, Rock Lobster and Budgee Smuggler, along with a network of connectors and fire trails. The variety means you can put together anything from an approachable introductory lap to a much more technical session. One of the standout advanced options is Smuggler, a dedicated black-diamond trail reserved for experienced mountain bikers. Unlike most of Mudgee Common's trails, which are shared with pedestrians, Smuggler is bike-only and has specific experience and protective-equipment requirements displayed at its entrance. The network has been developed with the support of the local cycling community and Mudgee Region MTB, with the original vision being to turn an existing riding area into a properly built and maintained mountain bike destination for both locals and visiting riders. Being so close to town is a big advantage. Riders can hit the trails and then make the most of Mudgee's cafés, wineries, accommodation and wider cycling scene, making the Common an easy centrepiece for a riding weekend in the region.
