About this ride
Pomingalarna Park, or “Pomi” as it’s known locally, is Wagga Wagga’s main mountain biking destination, combining a 13km bushland MTB network with the impressive Wagga Wagga Multisport Cycling Complex. Located at Pomingalarna Reserve on the western edge of the city, it offers everything from natural cross-country riding to jumps, pump tracks, BMX and track cycling in the one precinct. The bushland network has four marked trails of varying difficulty, with options of approximately 3.6km, 7km and 13km. The riding is predominantly easy to intermediate, following undulating natural terrain through native bushland with plenty of climbing and descending along the way. Make it to the higher points and you’re rewarded with some excellent views back across Wagga Wagga and the surrounding Riverina landscape. For newer riders or anyone wanting to practise features, the dedicated 1.5km Mountain Bike Playground Loop is a great addition. It has six optional features including tabletop jumps, a flip-flop berm, seesaw, log rides, rock step-downs and a bridge, with ride-around options allowing riders to build confidence progressively. Right alongside the MTB trails is the $12 million Multisport Cycling Complex, opened in 2022. It includes a pump track, three-level jump track, BMX track, 1.5km criterium circuit, 400m velodrome and cycling education area, making Pomingalarna one of the most diverse cycling precincts in regional NSW. The jump area is particularly good for progression, with easy, medium and hard lines. The easy line uses 1.2m tabletops, while the medium and hard lines introduce progressively larger gap jumps up to 2m. Pomingalarna also forms part of the wider Wiradjuri Trail, so there are opportunities to extend the ride beyond the MTB network. The reserve is shared with walkers, runners and other recreational users, while outer fire trails are also used by horse riders. For riders searching for Wagga Wagga MTB, Pomingalarna MTB Park, Riverina mountain bike trails, family MTB in Wagga or cycling parks in Central West NSW, Pomi is an excellent all-round riding destination. RTS Tip: This is one where it’s worth allowing extra time. Ride the 13km bushland MTB loop first, then finish with a session on the MTB playground, pump track or jumps. With BMX, criterium and velodrome facilities alongside it, Pomingalarna is much more than just an MTB trail network — it’s a genuine multi-discipline cycling hub.
