Port Macquarie Urban MTB Park
About this ride
Port Macquarie Urban MTB Park is a compact cross-country trail network hidden right in the middle of Port Macquarie, beside Wayne Richards Park on Koala Street. Despite its suburban setting, the park packs a surprising amount of singletrack into a small area and is a great option for a quick ride, families or riders wanting somewhere accessible without heading out of town. Current Trailforks mapping shows around 22 MTB trails covering approximately 5km, predominantly green and blue graded. The network is primarily cross-country, with short interconnected sections that can be combined and repeated to create a longer ride. Trails including Koala Trees, Soccer Straight East & West, T1–T4, Beanfield Berms, Banksias/Rollercoaster, Pump Bumps and Rock Garden provide plenty of variety. Expect twisting singletrack, small climbs and descents, berms, rocky features and sections of flow rather than long gravity runs. The Cakewalk, at around 1.6km, is a good introductory loop for riders getting to know the network. One of the biggest bonuses is the adjacent Wayne Richards Park Pump Track. The international-standard Velo Pump Track was completed in 2022 and sits right alongside the MTB trails, making this a particularly good spot for juniors, families and riders wanting to work on skills before or after hitting the singletrack. The park's compact layout also makes it excellent for progression. Newer riders can stick to the easier green sections, while more confident riders can seek out the blue trails and technical features. With trails repeatedly crossing and reconnecting, it's easy to put together different combinations rather than simply riding one prescribed loop. For riders searching for Port Macquarie MTB, Port Macquarie Urban MTB Park, family mountain biking in Port Macquarie or MTB trails on the NSW Mid North Coast, this is a handy little network to have on the ride list — especially if you're staying in town. RTS Tip: Don't come here expecting a huge destination network like nearby Jolly Nose. The appeal of the Urban MTB Park is that it's right in town, easy to access and packed with short trails you can session and combine. There’s plenty of parking at Wayne Richards Fields, but riders are specifically asked not to ride across the sporting fields when accessing the trails. Current Trailforks mapping is strongly recommended because there are lots of intersections in a relatively small area.
