Ross Dam MTB Trails
About this ride
Ross Dam/ Ross River offers a beginner-friendly cross-country mountain bike network along the foreshore of Lake Ross, around 30km south of Townsville. The trails combine flowing singletrack, fire roads, short pinch climbs, rocky creek crossings and fun descents, with beautiful views across the dam and surrounding ranges. The network is generally suited to beginner and intermediate riders, making it a great contrast to some of Townsville’s more technical MTB areas. (rockwheelers.com.au) Access to the MTB trails is tightly controlled because Ross Dam forms part of Townsville’s drinking water supply. Riding access is currently available to eligible Townsville Rockwheelers Mountain Bike Club members on weekends and public holidays, subject to completing the required induction and following the conditions of entry. General public access to the MTB trails is prohibited. (rockwheelers.com.au) RTS Tip: Don’t arrive expecting to simply ride in — Ross Dam MTB access requires current Rockwheelers membership, completion of the Ross Dam induction and sign-in before every ride. Access is generally permitted from 5am Saturday to 6pm Sunday and 5am–6pm on public holidays, with trails closed during wet weather unless specifically approved. Check the latest Rockwheelers access information before heading out
