Silverlite reserve

Silvalite Reserve is a natural bushland reserve on the western side of Wagga Wagga, covering approximately 34 hectares alongside the Olympic Highway. For riders, its main significance is as one of the scenic bushland sections traversed by the 42km Wiradjuri Trail, making it a useful link in a much bigger ride around the city. The riding here is about exploration rather than technical mountain biking. The Wiradjuri Trail passes through the reserve on a mixture of natural and unsealed surfaces, providing a quieter, more bush-focused section of the wider Wagga loop. It works particularly well for MTBs, gravel bikes and capable hybrids. Silvalite is also an important conservation area. Although much of the landscape was historically cleared and grazed, significant natural regeneration has occurred over the past 50 years. Today the reserve contains recovering box woodland and native habitat and forms part of a wildlife corridor connecting Willans Hill, Birramal Conservation Area, Pomingalarna Reserve and the Murrumbidgee River. The reserve supports a surprising variety of wildlife, including threatened species such as Squirrel Gliders, Superb Parrots, Swift Parrots, Brown Treecreepers and Grey-crowned Babblers, so this is definitely a section where slowing down and taking in the surroundings is worthwhile.
