About this ride

Tenterfield to Stanthorpe – Gravel Bikepacking The Tenterfield to Stanthorpe Overnighter is a brilliant 141km, two-day cycling adventure, linking the New England High Country of northern NSW with Queensland's beautiful Granite Belt. Starting in Tenterfield, the route leaves town behind and heads north through quiet country backroads and gravel, crossing the NSW–Queensland border and exploring the rural landscapes between two of Australia's great high-country cycling regions. Rather than taking the direct highway between Tenterfield and Stanthorpe, this ride turns the journey into an adventure. Expect rolling terrain, gravel roads, farmland, forests and plenty of climbing as the route winds its way through the border country. The destination is Stanthorpe, the heart of Queensland's Granite Belt — a region known for its cool climate, granite landscapes, orchards, vineyards and country towns. It makes a pretty great place to finish a day on the bike, refuel and settle in before continuing the adventure. Over two days, the distance is achievable for experienced gravel and bikepacking riders while still providing a proper sense of travelling somewhere by bike. It's a great introduction to multi-day riding for those ready to step beyond shorter day loops, or another fantastic route for experienced riders building a longer cycling trip through the New England and Granite Belt regions. The ride also opens up plenty of possibilities at either end. Tenterfield has an extensive collection of gravel routes ranging from short local loops to multi-day adventures, while Stanthorpe and the surrounding Granite Belt provide even more country roads and cycling opportunities to explore. RTS Tip: This is a multi-day ride through rural country, so plan your food, water, overnight stop and transport logistics before setting out. Carry offline navigation, repair equipment and sufficient supplies, and check current weather, road and access conditions before your ride. Follow the mapping link for the detailed Tenterfield to Stanthorpe route and navigation.
