About this ride

The Texas Lasso – Tenterfield Bikepacking Adventure The Texas Lasso is the ultimate Tenterfield gravel adventure — an epic 325km multi-day bikepacking route through the remote landscapes of the New England High Country and surrounding border country. Designed to be ridden over approximately 3–5 days, this is a proper journey rather than simply a long gravel ride. The route links quiet country roads, gravel, forest tracks and off-road sections as riders travel through rugged granite country, farmland, forests and small rural communities. The scale of the ride gives you time to properly experience this part of northern NSW. Expect long stretches away from traffic and towns, changing road surfaces, plenty of climbing and the feeling of travelling through country rather than simply riding a loop close to civilisation. The route takes riders towards the Queensland border and the small town of Texas, giving the ride its fitting name before the adventure eventually loops back towards Tenterfield. How you tackle the Texas Lasso is part of the appeal. Strong, experienced bikepackers can cover bigger distances each day, while stretching the journey across four or five days gives you more time to enjoy the landscapes, stop in the communities along the way and make the ride part of a bigger New England High Country adventure. At 325km, this is the longest of Tenterfield's established gravel and bikepacking routes and a fantastic option for riders ready to step beyond overnight trips into a genuinely substantial multi-day adventure. Tenterfield also makes a brilliant place to base yourself before or after the ride, with a growing collection of shorter gravel loops, full-day adventures and other multi-day routes to explore throughout the region. RTS Tip: The Texas Lasso travels through remote country, so good preparation and self-sufficiency are essential. Carefully plan food, water, overnight stops and resupply points, carry offline navigation and appropriate repair and emergency equipment, and don't rely on continuous mobile reception. Check current weather, fire, road and access conditions before setting out and follow the mapping link for the detailed route and navigation.
