About this ride

The Wambenger Trails – Arklow network, immediately north of Collie in Western Australia’s South West, is a substantial cross-country MTB destination set amongst beautiful jarrah forest and granite outcrops. Arklow forms part of the much larger Wambenger Trails system surrounding Collie, with DBCA reporting the expanded Arklow Forest Block network at around 54 km of singletrack. The riding ranges from approachable green trails through to flowing and technical blue terrain, making it particularly good for beginner to intermediate riders, XC riders and families. The network can be accessed from several trailheads, including Harris River Dam, Ray’s Trailhead and Mornington Trailhead. Trails can be linked together to create everything from short loops to substantial half-day rides, while the nearby Munda Biddi Trail provides a direct riding connection between Collie and the network. A standout is Mornington Glory, a fast blue descent connecting the Munda Biddi with the main Arklow network. It’s packed with tabletops, rollers and flowing downhill terrain, providing a fun introduction to the faster side of Arklow. 220 Trail offers around 6.2 km of more technical riding, while trails such as Dead Cats, Ray’s Trail and Pet Cemetery can be combined into longer loops through the forest. Arklow is also notable for its focus on adaptive mountain biking. The network includes a dedicated adaptive trail designed for handcycles, while Bull Ant is rated partially accessible under the Australian Adaptive MTB Guidelines. Bull Ant can be combined with the Munda Biddi to create an approximately 8 km adaptive loop, making Arklow one of the more inclusive MTB networks in Western Australia. The wider Wambenger project has transformed Collie into a major trail destination. Arklow can easily be combined with the Wellington National Park, Kylie and Wagyl Biddi MTB networks, with the overall Wambenger system now comprising nearly 175 km of mountain bike trails around Collie. RTS Tip: If it’s your first Arklow visit, start from Ray’s or Harris River Dam trailhead and build a loop suited to your ability before exploring farther into the network. Stronger riders can pedal from Collie via the Munda Biddi and Mornington Glory, turning the ride into a much bigger adventure. Bring your own water — there is no drinking water on the trails — and download the Wambenger Trails map or app before setting out, as mobile coverage can be limited.
