Wambenger Trails - Mt Lennard
About this ride
The Mount Lennard Trails, Pile Road form the western side of the Wambenger Trails network in Wellington National Park, near Collie in Western Australia’s South West. Mt Lennard is one of the region’s original MTB areas, with around 40 km of trails weaving through mature jarrah-marri forest, granite outcrops and the hills above the Collie River Valley. The riding has a distinctly natural, old-school cross-country character, with flowing singletrack, gradual climbs, technical features and fast descents rather than heavily machine-built bike-park terrain. The network caters particularly well to intermediate riders, although there are options from green through to black and double-black terrain. Lennard Circuit is a great starting point: a 6.7 km green-rated loop with gentle rolling terrain that can be ridden on its own or used to connect with harder trails. One of the signature rides is Grizzly, a roughly 5.4–6.5 km blue descent from Lennard Road towards the lower trailhead. It twists through mature jarrah forest and granite outcrops with flowing corners, technical features and log rides. Pair it with the 6.7 km Boylan Trail to create an approximately 12 km loop, with Boylan providing the climb back into the upper network. Other trails include Wals, a 1.8 km fast-flowing descent with technical features, and Butcher, a 2.9 km blue-rated trail using an old fire-road alignment. While Mt Lennard generally favours natural XC riding, there’s also a jump area at the bottom of the network featuring doubles and tabletops for riders looking for some airtime. Mt Lennard now sits within a much larger riding destination. The wider Wambenger Trails in Wellington National Park contain almost 95–100 km of MTB trails, linking Mt Lennard with Wellington Dam, Honeymoon Pool and the Collie River Valley. Together with the Arklow and other Collie networks, it has transformed the region into one of Western Australia’s major MTB destinations. RTS Tip: For your first Mt Lennard ride, start with Lennard Circuit, then step up to the classic Boylan–Grizzly loop for around 12 km of excellent blue singletrack. Mt Lennard’s trails are generally less manicured than the newer Wambenger trails, so expect roots, rocks, natural surfaces and old-school XC features. There are no toilets at the Mt Lennard trails, so come prepared, carry water and download the Wambenger Trails map before heading into the forest.
