About this ride

Westleigh H2O MTB Park is a well-known mountain bike network in the bushland at Westleigh in Sydney’s north, long loved by local riders for its natural singletrack and technical riding. However, there’s an important update for the RTS card: the existing H2O trails are currently closed while the site is redeveloped into a formal, sanctioned MTB network. Historically, H2O developed as an unsanctioned community-built trail network on former Sydney Water land. The riding became particularly popular for its relatively compact network of natural trails, with rocky sandstone features, technical sections, tight singletrack and flowing lines giving it a distinctly North Shore Sydney MTB character. The exciting part is what comes next. Hornsby Shire Council has now commenced construction of the approved Westleigh Park MTB Trail Network. Specialist MTB trail builders have been appointed to construct and rehabilitate the trails, replacing or upgrading existing lines and building new connections while closing and rehabilitating trails through environmentally sensitive areas. Construction officially commenced in August 2026, initially with around 900m of access road, followed by construction of the MTB trails themselves. Council currently expects the new trail network to open in early 2027. The MTB network forms part of the much larger Westleigh Park redevelopment, a roughly 36-hectare recreation precinct planned to eventually include sporting fields, parkland, walking facilities, improved cycling and pedestrian access, parking and other community infrastructure. For riders searching for Westleigh H2O MTB, Westleigh mountain bike trails, Hornsby MTB, mountain biking in northern Sydney or Sydney North Shore MTB trails, this is definitely one to keep on the radar — the next version of H2O should be a very different proposition from the informal network riders have known for years. RTS Tip: Westleigh H2O is currently CLOSED. Hornsby Shire Council has closed all public access to Westleigh Park during construction, so the old trails should not be ridden. The new sanctioned MTB network is expected to open in early 2027. For riding nearby in the meantime, Council recommends the existing Hornsby Mountain Bike Trail at Old Man’s Valley.
