Rockhampton BMX Track

The Rockhampton BMX Track is a purpose-built BMX racing facility at Underwood Park on Hollingsworth Street, Park Avenue/Kawana in North Rockhampton, Queensland. Home to Rockhampton BMX Club, the track has been part of Rockhampton’s cycling community since 1975 and caters for riders from young balance-bike participants through to experienced BMX racers. The facility includes a dedicated BMX race track with a starting box, jumps, rollers and bermed corners, along with lighting that allows racing and training to continue after dark. The track is designed to provide progression across a wide range of abilities. Club information describes it as easy enough for beginners while still challenging for experienced riders, with classes including Mini Wheelers, Sprockets, 20-inch Challenge and 24-inch Cruiser racing. This makes Rockhampton BMX a good introduction for kids wanting to try BMX racing as well as a training and competition venue for established riders. Rockhampton BMX has an active racing calendar, with regular club racing, gate practice and coaching. The venue also hosts larger regional BMX events, including the annual Rocky Rumble, and appears on the Queensland AusCycling BMX racing calendar. Facilities at Underwood Park include the BMX track, toilets, clubhouse facilities, spectator areas and parking accessed from Hollingsworth Street. For riders travelling through Rockhampton and Central Queensland, the track can also be paired with the nearby Gracemere Pump Track at Cedric Archer Park, around 15 km south-west of Rockhampton. That facility offers more than 550 metres of asphalt pump-track riding and is designed for BMX bikes, mountain bikes, scooters and skateboards, providing another good option for riders wanting to work on pumping, cornering and bike-handling skills. The club caters for riders from around two years old through to adults, so it’s a great place for families interested in trying BMX racing. Experienced riders should also keep an eye out for the Rocky Rumble and other regional race meets, when Rockhampton attracts BMX racers from across Queensland.
