About this ride

Blackwater Velodrome – Queensland Blackwater Velodrome is an outdoor cycling track in the Central Highlands town of Blackwater, Queensland, providing a dedicated facility for track cycling and another interesting stop for riders exploring regional Queensland. The outdoor concrete velodrome measures approximately 333 metres per lap, with its banked oval track offering riders a very different cycling experience from the road, gravel and mountain bike trails found throughout the region. Blackwater also holds a special place in Australian cycling history as the hometown of Anna Meares, one of Australia's greatest track cyclists. From growing up in the small Queensland mining town, Meares went on to become an Olympic champion, win 11 world titles and become one of the most successful Australian cyclists of all time. That connection makes Blackwater an interesting destination for cycling fans as well as riders looking to discover some of Australia's lesser-known regional velodromes and cycling facilities. Whether you're searching for cycling in Blackwater, velodromes in Queensland, track cycling facilities or places to ride in Central Queensland, Blackwater Velodrome is a unique part of the region's cycling story. RTS Tip: Blackwater Velodrome is an older regional cycling facility and its condition and availability may change. Check current local information before making a special trip and inspect the track surface and facility conditions before riding.
