Bruny Island Gravel Network

Bruny Island North is a beautiful gravel loop exploring the quieter northern end of one of Tasmania's most iconic islands, combining smooth gravel roads, coastal views, rolling farmland and a little local history into a brilliant day on the bike. Covering approximately 45km with around 914m of climbing, the route is roughly 55% gravel and 45% sealed road. There aren't any major sustained climbs, but don't expect a completely easy spin — the terrain continually rolls up and down throughout the ride, adding up to a surprisingly solid day. Starting from the Kettering ferry terminal, the adventure begins with a ferry trip across to Bruny Island. Once on the island, riders make their way towards beautiful gravel roads hugging Barnes Bay, before heading inland towards the historic Bruny Island Quarantine Station. From there, the route continues through Killora and along the island's north-western coastline, delivering some fantastic water views before reaching Dennes Point at the northern end of the island. The return journey winds back through quiet farmland, forests and classic Bruny Island countryside before eventually reconnecting with the road to the ferry. The gravel is generally smooth and enjoyable rather than highly technical, making this a great option for confident gravel riders looking for an adventure without taking on the much rougher terrain found on some of Tasmania's more demanding gravel routes. Allow some extra time to stop at the Quarantine Station, enjoy the coastal views and explore along the way — this is definitely a ride where the experience is more important than racing the clock.
